Slow aging? Less Stress? How can that be?

Many treatments and therapies claim to reduce stress, slow aging, and improve other components of health and wellness. But how can we know it really does any good? Well there is a way to find out. Serum thiol levels are valuable to help know if your wellness care or treatment of choice is actually helping you resist the physical, chemical, and emotional stresses of life. Serum thiol is a surrogate marker for DNA repair enzymes. So if serum thiol levels are at appropriate levels we know a patients is doing a good job of fighting the effects of stress and aging. In other words, we have a great marker of general health status.

The exciting thing for chiropractic is a study was done to see if patients under chiropractic wellness/maintenance care had thiol levels that indicated they were “healthier” than people who did not get the same care. Chiropractic has long claimed our patients are healthier than the general population. Now there is a way measure that!

Dr. Chris Kent summarizes the study:

“Results: In a population of long-term chiropractic patients, where paraspinal thermal and SEMG scans were used as criteria for subluxation-centered care, serum thiol levels were higher than those found in populations with active disease processes, and compared favorably with the serum thiol levels in healthy subjects.”

Very exciting for chiropractic and what we have stood for over the years!
